Understanding the sizes
Clamps are specified by their maximum opening and throat depth. The opening is how thick a workpiece it takes; the throat is how far in from the edge it can reach.
Working with clamp
Tighten only as far as needed to stop movement — over-tightening bows thin material and dents softwood. A scrap offcut under each jaw spreads the load and protects the surface. Two lighter clamps usually hold better than one very tight one.
