Van security

Which lock is right for your van?

Van security locks add a layer your van’s own locks don’t have: each one opens with its own key, not the remote.

Deadlocks

Also known as hook locks: an extra key-operated lock alongside your van’s own locks. Best if your van is left for long spells, overnight at home or on site. The price covers the side and rear doors.

A slam lock fitted to a van door

Lock the moment the door shuts, so a door is never left unlocked by mistake. Popular with couriers and anyone in and out of the van all day. The price covers the side and rear doors.

Driver’s door lock upgrade

Ford Transit door locks are a known weak spot. We fit a high-security barrel and bezel to the driver’s door.

All in: the lock, the fitting at our Bulwell workshop and three keys, with a 12-month guarantee on our fitting.

Sliding doors on both sides? The second one adds £150, inc. VAT.

Many vans mix them: slam locks on the side door and a deadlock on the rear doors. We agree the price before we start.

A van deadlock fitted to a cab door

For van drivers, one of the biggest concerns is undoubtedly the security of the vehicle.

Regularly transporting tools, expensive equipment and high-value goods, it’s vital that your vehicle has van locks installed that are robust and keep the inside of your vehicle safe.

Common questions

Frequently asked

Do you fit van locks in Nottingham?

Yes, Ken’s Autos fit van locks and other van security products at our Bulwell branch in Nottingham.

Do you come out and fit van locks?

No, we fit locks to vans in our workshop.

What are the popular types of van locks available?

The two most common types of van lock are deadlock and slamlock.

What is the difference between a slam lock and a dead lock?

A slam lock will automatically lock as soon as the door closes. A deadlock requires the key to be turned in order to lock it.

Which is the best type of van lock?

If you are in and out of your van regularly and park in streets or exposed sites then the slam lock is recommended. Courier vans for example will usually have slamlocks. If you are more worried about security for longer periods, e.g. overnight at your home, then the deadlock will be better. Some people combine a slamlock for the side doors and a deadlock for the rear door.

Will the lock be integrated with my existing door locks?

Slamlocks are integrated to your existing door lock mechanism. Deadlocks will work alongside the existing locks. Deadlocks, therefore, provide an additional layer of security to your existing lock mechanism.

Will the van locks work with central locking?

No – the locks will require a key to open.

Should I change the door lock on my Ford Transit?

Ford Transits are known to have weak door locks which are easy to break into. Ken’s Autos specialise in upgrading the Ford Transit door lock to a high-security barrel and bezel which will prevent break ins while still maintaining the original look and key. The locks are suitable for Hybrid and Electric Transits.

How many keys will I get with my upgraded van locks?

You will get three keys.

Do you fit locks to Ford Transit Custom vans?

Yes. We fit deadlocks and slam locks to vans of all makes and models, including the Transit and Transit Custom, and we upgrade weak Transit door locks to a high-security barrel and bezel.

Do you fit hook locks?

Yes. Hook locks are deadlocks: an extra key-operated lock for each door, with a bolt that hooks over its catch so the door is harder to prise open. For the side and rear doors they’re £500, fitted, including VAT.

How much does it cost to have van locks fitted?

Deadlocks for the side and rear doors are £500 fitted, and slam locks for the side and rear doors £400; a second sliding door adds £150, and a driver’s door lock upgrade is £120, all including VAT. Send us your van model and we’ll confirm the price before we start.

How long does van lock fitting take?

Allow about 2–3 hours. It depends on your van and how many doors you’re having done, so we’ll confirm when you book.
