Understanding the sizes

Spanner sizes are measured across the flats of the nut, so a 13mm spanner fits a 13mm fastener. This set covers 4, 4.5, 5, 5.5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11mm. A combination spanner carries an open jaw at one end and a ring at the other, giving the choice between speed and grip on the same tool.

Working with spanner set

The ring end surrounds the fastener completely and spreads load across more faces, so it is the end to use when a bolt is tight. The open end is for speed and for fasteners you cannot get a ring over — brake unions and pipework. Chrome vanadium with a polished chrome finish resists corrosion and wipes clean of oil and grease.
