The current rating of cable is based on the acceptable loss of voltage for the length of cable used. Lower voltage drops can be achieved by using cables with a greater c.s.a. Cable lengths, operating conditions, temperatures and applications must be considered. Voltage drop for return circuits must be calculated and added to the value for the supply conductor.
