The neck comes off without tools when you’re not towing, and locks with a key. Fitted with 7-pin electrics at our Bulwell workshop; the price includes the towbar, the electrics, the fitting and VAT.
We fit towbars the same day. When you drop the car off, we’ll give you a collection time.
From £587 fitted with 7-pin electrics, inc. VAT
13-pin electrics, for caravans and many newer bike racks: £50 extra. Dedicated electrics, which work with your car’s own systems: £180 extra. Both include VAT. A detachable is as strong as a fixed towbar.

- you tow now and then, not every week
- your car has rear parking sensors
- you want the towbar out of sight when you’re not using it
- a fixed towball would cover your number plate or a rear light: the rules say it must come off when you’re not towing
A fixed towbar suits you better if:
- you tow every week
- you want to carry bikes and tow at the same time (a flange)

Do you fit electric motorised retractable towbars?
Not yet. Currently these are only available on certain vehicles and only via the main dealerships, but as soon as we get our hands on them we’ll be on it!
Are detachable towbars as strong as fixed towbars?
Yes, removable towbars are as strong as fixed towbars and in both cases the load capacity will exceed the vehicle’s towing capacity. Fixed towbars are more common for vans and pickups because some commercial trailers need a ball and pin towball which can’t be fitted to a detachable towbar.
Are detachable towbars lockable?
Yes, all our detachable towbars come with a key which locks the neck so it can’t be stolen.
How much is a detachable towbar?
Detachable towbars start from £587, fitted with 7-pin electrics and including VAT. 13-pin electrics are £50 extra, and dedicated electrics £180 extra, also including VAT. Pick your car on our booking page to see the exact price for each towbar.
Do I need to tell my insurer?
Yes. Insurers treat a towbar as a modification, so let yours know once it’s fitted.
