The oil your Nissan Qashqai needs depends on its engine and when it was built. Below is what the carmaker lists for each Qashqai engine — 3 generations and 8 engine types in our table — and the oils we sell that state it: NAPA from our Bulwell shelf, plus Castrol, Mobil and Valvoline delivered next day.

  • Qashqai J12 (2021–now) — petrol: Renault RN17 (5W-30)
  • Qashqai J11 (2014–2021) — petrol: Renault RN0710 (5W-40) or Renault RN17 (5W-30); diesel: ACEA C4 (5W-30) or Renault RN17 (5W-30)
  • Qashqai J10 (2007–2014) — petrol: ACEA A3/B4 (5W-30); diesel: ACEA A3/B4 (5W-40) or ACEA C4 (5W-30)

The grade (such as 5W-30) and the approval (such as a carmaker code) both need to match your handbook. If your car has a particulate filter, the low-ash oil the handbook lists protects it.

Renault RN17 oil

For the Qashqai J11: 1.3 DIG-T (2018–2021), 1.5 dCi 115 / 1.7 dCi (late 2018 on); Qashqai J12: 1.3 DIG-T mild hybrid. Renault's newer specification for most engines from about 2018.

ACEA C4 · 5W-30 oil

For the Qashqai J10: 1.5 / 1.6 / 2.0 dCi with DPF; Qashqai J11: 1.5 / 1.6 dCi (to Sep 2018). ACEA C4: a low-ash class used mainly by Renault and Mercedes-Benz.

ACEA A3/B4 · 5W-30 oil

For the Qashqai J10: 1.6 / 2.0 petrol. ACEA A3/B4: a high-performance class for petrol and diesel engines without a particulate filter.

ACEA A3/B4 · 5W-40 oil

For the Qashqai J10: 1.5 dCi without DPF (2007–2010). ACEA A3/B4: a high-performance class for petrol and diesel engines without a particulate filter.

Renault RN0710 oil

Does my Qashqai need low-ash (low SAPS) oil?

If it has a particulate filter, yes: use the low-ash approval its handbook lists, such as ACEA C4. A high-ash oil can block the filter over time.
