Which oil does a Peugeot 308 take?

The oil your Peugeot 308 needs depends on its engine and when it was built. Below is what the carmaker lists for each 308 engine — 2 generations and 7 engine types in our table — and the oils we sell that state it: NAPA from our Bulwell shelf, plus Castrol, Mobil and Valvoline delivered next day.

  • 308 Mk2 (2013–2021) — petrol: Stellantis FPW9.55535/03 (5W-30) or PSA B71 2290 (5W-30); diesel: Stellantis FPW9.55535/03 (5W-30) or PSA B71 2312 (0W-30)
  • 308 Mk1 (2007–2013) — petrol: PSA B71 2290 (5W-30); diesel: PSA B71 2290 (5W-30)

The grade (such as 5W-30) and the approval (such as a carmaker code) both need to match your handbook. If your car has a particulate filter, the low-ash oil the handbook lists protects it.

PSA B71 2290 oil

For the 308 Mk1: 1.4 / 1.6 VTi, 1.6 THP, 1.6 / 2.0 HDi; 308 Mk2: 1.6 THP. Peugeot, Citroen and DS's 5W-30 low-ash specification, mostly for cars built before about 2017.

Stellantis FPW9.55535/03 oil

For the 308 Mk2: 1.2 PureTech, 2.0 BlueHDi (DW10F), 1.5 BlueHDi (2018 on).

PSA B71 2312 oil

For the 308 Mk2: 1.6 BlueHDi (Euro 6, AdBlue). Peugeot, Citroen and DS's 0W-30 specification for many newer engines with a particulate filter.

What grade of oil does a Peugeot 308 use?

Most 308 engines in our table list 5W-30; others list 0W-30. Use the grade your handbook gives together with its approval: the same grade can carry different approvals.

Does my 308 need low-ash (low SAPS) oil?

If it has a particulate filter, yes: use the low-ash approval its handbook lists, such as PSA B71 2290 or PSA B71 2312. A high-ash oil can block the filter over time.
